About Widr

Why Widr?

  • A specific professional, such as a tax lawyer or a home chef.
  • A trustworthy professional, such as a child-minder or a carer.

Widr is a trusted community whose members can recommend a competent professional to suit your needs and your request. Only members that you know (number saved in your Contacts) or that you could know (with at least one mutual contact) can reply to you.

Widr is a bit like a friend who knows everyone and who’s always there for you!

Where can I download the application?

The application is available for iOS. You can download it on the App store by searching for ‘Widr.’

Widr will also soon be available for Android devices.

Do I have to pay to use the application?

Downloading and using the application is free of charge (and always will be!)

Specialist professionals who are already using Widr will soon be able to sign up to a premium version, which will create an alert when a community member posts a request corresponding to their sector and zone of activity. Once more, the professional can only respond to a post if he or she shares a mutual friend with the member.

Signing Up

How do I sign up?

1- Download the application

2- Check out the news feed containing current requests and recommendations

3- We will send you a secure SMS in order to verify your identity before allowing you to post a request or reply to another Widr member

4- Complete your profile by adding additional and optional information, such as your current professional situation.

We verify each member’s phone number in order to guarantee a trustworthy community and verified recommendations.

Can I sign up using my Facebook account?

Yes, you can sign up using your Facebook account. However we don’t waive the phone number verification process as this allows us to validate your identity and ensure secure application use.

Using Widr

How do I ask a question?

Simply type the profession or service required in to the search engine.

Widr will ask you to add a description and a city to your request. Trusted members will then reply with their recommendations.

Can I ask a question without signing up?

No. Only Widr members can post requests. This is to ensure a relevant news feed and member authenticity.

Who will be able to see and respond to my question?

Only members that you know (number saved in your Contacts) or that you could know (with at least one mutual contact) can respond to your request.

Responses are sent individually and their distribution is limited. They are not visible to the general public: only you and other Widr members can see exchanged messages.

What sort of questions can I ask? What are the different categories?

You can ask any question relating to requests for services or advice.

We personally validate each request to ensure that it respects our quality policy as well as Widr’s ethics. This also enables us to guarantee a personalized and interesting news feed.

How can I trust recommendations?

You can ask the member recommending a professional to show all of your mutual contacts.

This allows you to discreetly check with one of these mutual contacts before following up the recommendation.

Member Exchanges

Can I send a direct message to another Widr member?

Yes, in the following situations:

  • If you are replying to a request
  • If you posted a request and a Widr member has replied to you

Can I see which contacts I have in common with other Widr members?

Yes, however you and the other user must both accept to show mutual contacts in order to do so.

Confidentiality and Data Protection

Why do you need to access my Contacts?

Widr is a recommendation network based on trust. In order to establish this trust, we only share your requests with Widr members that you know or could know.

Can I see which contact I have in common with other Widr members?

Yes, however you and the other user must both accept to show mutual contacts.

Example : I post a request because I’m looking for a tax lawyer

  • My friend Clara sees my request, but doesn’t know a tax lawyer
  • Mathew, a friend of Clara, sees my request and just so happens to know an excellent tax lawyer. He can therefore send me a reply.

Can the Widr team access my Contacts’ phone numbers?

We store collected data for a 12-month period. If you delete your profile, this is reduced to 30 days. Phone numbers are the only component that we store. Contact identity stays on your phone.

Phone numbers are never shared with other members, companies or organizations. We do not advertise any external services and we certainly do not exploit any collected data, including phone numbers and email addresses.

What do you do with user data?

What happens to my data if I wish to unsubscribe?

If you wish to unsubscribe, your data will be deleted within 30 days.

This 30-day period allows you to reactivate your account if you wish, without loosing your conversations.

Can I use Widr without authorizing access to my Contacts?

Yes, you can browse the news feed but you will not be able to use all of the application’s functions because we do not allow anonymous users to contact Widr members.

Widr requests access to your Contacts to ensure a high level of trust and genuine relationships between members.

Can other users access my Contacts?

No. Never!

Will other users have access to my phone number?

No. Other users will never be able to see your phone number. You can, however, request to see mutual contacts. If you select this option, a list of names will be visible under the name attributed in your Contacts list.

My father is saved under “Dad” in my Contacts. He is saved under “John” in another member’s phone. It is impossible for Widr users to make the link between the two identities.

Which parts of my profile can other Widr members see?

Other users can only see information that you decide to communicate:

  • Photo
  • Full name
  • Current professional situation
